UK: Long the subject of ridicule and suspicion due to their ungainly features, owners and breeders of Sphynx cats are now celebrating the huge demand for the curious cats as they have been admitted into the cat version of the Kennel Club. Granted full recognition by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF) in July of this year, the Sphynx cat now sells for upwards of £1000. Rehabilitation of their unfortunate image has not been helped by negative appearances with Dr Evil of ‘Austin Powers’ fame. Breeders praise the inquisitive and sturdy nature of the breed, in direct opposition to their unnerving and creepy appearance.
